The opening will be 16 of September 17.00 at Rotermann center, Tallinn.
There will be more than 10 outfits from different groups that all concentrated on one target-group that fashion designers usualy dont concider and the question was can fashion empower them?
Come and see for yourself:)

WORK IN PROGRESS AND DETAILS:

Trousers open with zippers on both sides all the way down.

Some parts on the legs have "airholes"

The jacket, that turned out quite sporty and looks a bit like retro. Both sleeves open with zippers.

FABRICS:

Beige and dark-blue velvet for trousers.

Here are the electric-blue and bright yellow for jacket+ some breathing fabricks with smaller and bigger holes.

This one i will use for trousers in parts to prevent getting too hot in velvet trousers.

Designing for Tom

I havent had such an ESTONIAN and MALE client before who would tell me that the more colorful design, the better :) So the team Happycap colorboard and principles work well with Tom.

Im planning to make him trousers and a casual jacket.

As Tom needs help getting dressed, i try to think of how to make it easier for an assistant to get him dressed. Tom didnt have any special requirements of his own but he agreed with my suggestion that we make the hem part of trousers open with zippers and i have to think of an opening system for sleeves on the jacket aswell.

Of fabricks Tom likes velvet. So i´ll use that for trousers. One thing Tom pointed out is that he gets hot easily when he moves. So i`ll try to make parts of the trousers of some lighter and more breathing fabricks. The same goes for jacket.

I will make pockets with zippers and i will probably place them differently from usual trousers so it would be easier for others to get for an example his cellphone out, because he cant put his hand in a pocket. So the usual pockets in the front and on the back of trousers are not very useful for him.

Tom said that zippers are better than pressed buttons, because pressed buttons may open when he moves.

Meet my client- TOM RÜÜTEL

So, i can say i have found the ABSOLUTELY RIGHT client! Someone who without a question deserves it and whom im most happy to work with. Tom and i went to the same school together (he is one year younger than me, 23) so i have kind of always known him...i guess he knew everybody in school because he is very sociable and a simple person i think, easy to talk to and honest. Since the beginning of this project i have thought of him and when i told him about it, he agreed to take part at once. Tom was even a little disappointed when i said there will be no catwalk, he would have done it!

Tom was born with a moving disability and despite the doctors prognosis that he will never walk, he learned to stand up after every fall and after struggling he was taken to a normal kindergarden where he made friends that have been supportive ever since. He was raised by his mother Tiina alone but knowing this woman, she is a real fighter and its seems to me that giving up is never an option in this family. Tiina has a very good sense of humor and i guess that she always knows how to keep up the spirit. This year she was selected as the mother of the year of Saare district.

Today Tom is able to walk and run although it is physically quite hard work, perhaps like a training for most of us. But he loves sports and keeping fit is more like a hobby. He says his hands need more attention and training with a therapist, so that he could become independent- one of his biggest goals in life now. Until now his mouth and teeth perform the work of hands. For an example he uses toothbrush in his mouth to type on a computer.

This year Tom graduated Tartu University`s Pärnu College where he studied social work administration. He wrote his final paper about the capability of kindergardens to take in a child with moving disability in his hometown Kuressaare. He has also practised social work in several places and he believes that this is his field as he can use his own experience. Tom has also done charity projects with some friends- they tried to make the handycap socialize with "normal"; they gathered money over facebook to arrange a camp and christmas presents for children with mental disabilities. In year 2010 Tom and his friend Taavi Rauniste were selected as the volunteers of the year and were invited to a thank-you event by the president Toomas Hendrik Ilves. They also recieved a favour award of Saare district. Acknowledgement has inspired them to continue on.

I see a really healthy attitude in Tom. He says that he just does what he can do. With this in mind, he saw no reason why he couldnt take part in acting class during elementary and highschool. The experience on stage gave him selfconfidence and he felt it also gave confidence for the audience to take him without any prejudice. Today his hobbies include winter swimming and parachute jumping which both illustrate his unlimited mentality.

Hello my first post!
Now is the right time that i concentrate on this project! I have loaded my batteries and it has been quite a long time since March when we had our first workshop, so i have had time to round up ideas and thoughts and motivation for myself to realize within this project. Our knowledge is our responsibility- an idea that gave me a kick from Päivi`s presentation on 13 of May. There has been several other kicks during this time, like positive feedback whom i introduce the project; my work as a makeover stylist where i see often that fashion can empower people and in the end all that surrounds me tells me that this is a good and neccessary thing to do. Call me naive, but its us that make the world we live in and for me this project is all about people, being honest and down-to-earth.
